Ambalal Sarabhai

The Sarabhais came to limelight in late 1880s in Ahmedabad by establishing Calico Mills in Ahmedabad , which became a leading producer of high quality textiles and was the single largest unit in the industry during the first half of 1900s. However the catastrophe of the empire begun after the death of Ambalal Sarabhai in 1967. His death fired the succession issue. His son Vikram Sarabhai was engrossed in scientific studies and had little interest in the business. The attempts of the family to venture into plastics failed and eventually the empire collapsed.
