China crafting plans to derail Indo US nuclear deal

China is launching a cleverly craft global campaign against the Indo-US nuclear deal. Diplomatic sources in Washington said that China is not using it’s traditional lobbyist but is working on a massive pool of corporate sources to send a message to Capitol Hill that it’s dissent. The message to US is quiet clear that they are putting all eggs in one basket. Betting on India Growth Story and undermining China is going to hurt. But Beijing’s biggest trouble is that US Congress is more inclined towards India than China especially after toys and drugs were recalled. A second message that Capitol Hill is getting from Beijing is that if the deal goes through China might be compelled to offer something to Pakistan. But diplomatic sources are optimistic that it will not be able to do anything of that sort. Moreover there are countries that will do anything to get a similar deal. This is the group who are asking for criteria based exemption rather than single country exemption for India. China’s latest line is that it wants to see details of the safeguards agreement with IAEA before coming to a decision. The Indian government has decided in principle to go ahead in spite of domestic oppositions from left parties and BJP.
